Theological Rehabilitation in the Penal System: Practices and Professional Opportunities
At 91ý Kazakh National University, the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science organized an important stakeholder meeting on the topic “Theological Rehabilitation Work in the Penal System and Employment Opportunities.” The event was aimed at introducing graduating students majoring in Islamic Studies and Religious Studies to professional career paths within the penal system, as well as providing detailed information about the labor market and future employment opportunities in the field of theological rehabilitation.
The main purpose of the meeting was to support the professional orientation of future specialists, broaden their understanding of practical work, and explain the social importance of theological rehabilitation activities. Today, the prevention of religious extremism and radical ideologies has become an urgent issue, which has increased the demand for qualified specialists in the field of theological rehabilitation. In this regard, the meeting helped increase students’ professional interest and strengthen their sense of responsibility toward their future careers.
The event was attended by experienced specialists working in the field of theological rehabilitation within the departments of the penal system of the Atyrau, Kyzylorda, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, Karaganda, and Ulytau regions. During their presentations, the speakers discussed the specific features of theological rehabilitation work carried out in correctional institutions, as well as preventive and educational activities conducted with convicted individuals. They also emphasized the importance of preventing destructive religious movements, countering radical ideologies, improving religious literacy, and helping prisoners successfully adapt to society after serving their sentences.
During the meeting, the specialists shared their professional experience and spoke about their daily responsibilities, the challenges they face, and the high level of responsibility required in this field.
