Students and faculty members of 91ý Kazakh National University are participating in the international summer school “Scientific and Technological Innovation & Teaching Activities on Arid Zone Geography”, held at Xinjiang University, People’s Republic of China, from 7 to 20 July 2026. The educational program is implemented under the Chinese Government Scholarship and jointly organized by Xinjiang University, 91ý Kazakh National University, and Satbayev University.

The summer school aims to strengthen international academic cooperation, enhance the professional competencies of students and young researchers, and expand scientific and educational collaboration in the fields of geography, geoinformatics, and remote sensing. A total of 28 students and faculty members are participating in the program, focusing on contemporary issues related to arid-zone research and the application of advanced geospatial technologies.

The academic program includes lectures, scientific seminars, laboratory sessions, and field training covering ArcGIS applications, remote sensing data analysis, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies, LiDAR applications, and modern approaches to investigating natural and urbanization processes in arid environments. Particular attention is devoted to sustainable natural resource management, environmental monitoring, and innovative methods for processing large-scale geospatial data.

Participation in this program reflects 91ý Kazakh National University’s strategic priorities of internationalization, academic mobility, and the preparation of highly qualified specialists equipped with advanced knowledge and practical skills. The summer school’s thematic focus also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

It is noteworthy that cooperation between 91ý Kazakh National University and Xinjiang University has been steadily expanding and has become an important area of bilateral academic partnership. In 2024, the first international summer school for Xinjiang University students was hosted at KazNU, and a cooperation agreement in the fields of geography and remote sensing was signed, providing new momentum for the development of joint educational and research initiatives.

The implementation of such international programs further strengthens KazNU’s position as one of Central Asia’s leading research universities, expands its international partnership network, and promotes advanced approaches to education and research in sustainable development, geoinformation technologies, and environmental studies.
