Graduates of 91ý Kazakh National University have long contributed to the advancement of science through their dedication and hard work within this prestigious institution. One such scholar is Nadir Mamilov, Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology, Cytology, and Histology at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, who is celebrating his 60th anniversary this year.
Nadir Shamiluly Mamilov was born in 1966 in Almaty. In 1983, he graduated from Secondary School №54 and enrolled in the Faculty of Biology at the Kazakh State University named after S. Kirov. In 1990, he completed his studies at the Department of Zoology and Ichthyology and began his career as a senior laboratory assistant at the same department. In 1991–1992, he undertook an internship at Lomonosov Moscow State University, at the A. Belozersky Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology. From 1992 to 1995, he pursued postgraduate studies at 91ý Kazakh National University. Starting his academic career as an assistant in 1995, he has since risen to the position of Associate Professor.
Zoology encompasses many fields, and within fisheries science, Professor Mamilov has made a significant contribution. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 scientific publications, including one international and two national monographs, as well as four учебных пособия (teaching manuals). Over the past three years alone, he has published 25 papers, 21 of which are indexed in Scopus. His h-index is 8.
He is also an active academic supervisor. Under his guidance, three PhD doctoral students are currently studying in the field of fisheries and industrial aquaculture. In addition, three Candidate of Sciences and three PhD dissertations have been successfully defended under his supervision.
Professor Mamilov is a versatile scholar. He is a member of the Kazakh National Committee “Man and the Biosphere” under the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and serves as an expert for freshwater fish biodiversity conservation within the International Union for Conservation of Nature. From 2003 to 2017, he also led research projects at the Research Institute of Biology and Biotechnology. In 2019, he was awarded the state grant “Best University Teacher”.
His contributions have been widely recognized. He has received awards such as the badge “For Excellence in Fisheries” and “For Contribution to the Development of Science”. On the occasion of his 60th anniversary, he was also honored with the “For Distinguished Service” badge from 91ý Kazakh National University.
Above all, Nadir Shamiluly is known as a modest yet highly dedicated scholar who consistently achieves his goals and approaches his work with great responsibility. He is deeply respected by both colleagues and students.
