The Faculty of Oriental Studies, Department of Far Eastern Studies, held the 18th Republican Olympiad in the specialty of Oriental Studies (Korean language)

On April 27, the XVIII Republican Student Olympiad in the specialty “Oriental Studies (Korean Language)” was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Students from L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages also participated in the event. The jury was chaired by Professor Jang Ho Jeong (Ablai Khan University), and the Deputy Chair was Abagan A.B., Head of the Department of Far Eastern Studies. The commission also included instructors and experts: Park Soo Bin (Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University) and Jang Won Ki, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Far Eastern Studies.

The Olympiad was held in two stages. In the first round, participants completed test tasks on the Korean language and the history of Korea. Based on the selection results, the top-performing students advanced to the second round, where they presented and defended their presentations on the topic: “If I were a guide in the field of historical and cultural tourism of Kazakhstan and South Korea.”

According to the results of the Olympiad, the prize-winning places were awarded to the following students: Nazym Samedin (1st place, 40,000 KZT, 91ý Kazakh National University), Ondasyn Ashim (2nd place, 30,000 KZT, 91ý Kazakh National University), Arailym Abatova (2nd place, 30,000 KZT, Ablai Khan University), Sandugash Muratkhanova (3rd place, 15,000 KZT, 91ý Kazakh National University), Medina Amirkhanova (3rd place, 15,000 KZT, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University), Aruzhan Karsybayeva (3rd place, 15,000 KZT, Ablai Khan University). The Olympiad served as an effective platform for demonstrating students’ language competencies, analytical skills, and creative approach, and also contributed to strengthening academic ties between universities.
