An Open Day for applicants was organized at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of 91ý Kazakh National University in accordance with the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which focuses on ensuring access to quality education. In the context of modern globalization, one of the main tasks of the education system is to provide every young person with equal opportunities to receive quality education, to support the proper formation of their career guidance, and to help them adapt to the labor market. In this regard, the Open Day was aimed at providing applicants and their parents with comprehensive information about the higher education system.
The main purpose of the event was to introduce school students to the educational programs of higher education institutions, provide career guidance, and support them in making an informed choice of their future profession. For applicants, an Open Day is not only an informational platform but also an important stage that can influence the direction of their future life. Such events allow young people to assess their abilities properly and consciously choose their professional path.
During the Open Day, participants received complete and systematic information about the university’s educational opportunities, admission requirements, academic programs, organization of the educational process, and features of student life. The interactive format allowed participants to become more familiar with the university environment, gain a deeper understanding of the content of the educational process, and experience the academic culture of the institution.
As part of the event, special attention was given to the educational program “Biology and Related Sciences.” Within the framework of this program, Zh.S. Tileubayeva, a lecturer at the Department of Botany and Agroecology, provided applicants with detailed and comprehensive information about the content of the curriculum, admission requirements, learning opportunities, and future professional pathways. The structure of the educational program, the content of the courses, and the specific features of practical and laboratory classes were explained, and guidance was provided to help applicants make informed career choices.
In addition, applicants were informed about the main areas of scientific research, opportunities to participate in scientific projects as students, and the specifics of industrial internships. This, in turn, contributes to the development of future students’ research skills, the formation of scientific thinking, and the improvement of their professional competencies. Involving students in research activities at an early stage helps strengthen the scientific potential of future specialists and develop their innovative thinking. During the Open Day, applicants were also provided with extensive information about opportunities to obtain a dual degree and participate in joint scientific research with foreign higher education institutions.
Educational programs implemented in cooperation with international partner universities, as well as academic mobility and exchange programs, were presented. Students’ opportunities to study and gain practical experience at foreign universities were explained in detail. These opportunities contribute to the development of students’ professional competencies, the acquisition of international experience, and their integration into the global educational space. These initiatives fully correspond to the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 17 — partnership for development. International cooperation contributes to improving the quality of education, developing scientific research, and providing students with access to world-class knowledge and experience.
Moreover, within the framework of the Open Day, opportunities for students to participate in research activities, international conferences, and projects were introduced. This contributes to the formation of young scientists, the development of their scientific potential, and the improvement of their innovative thinking. In this respect, the event is also closely related to Sustainable Development Goal 9 — industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
The Open Day was not limited only to presenting educational opportunities; it also contributed to the social and psychological adaptation of applicants. Familiarity with the university environment, information about student life, and understanding the features of the educational process helped applicants prepare for higher education. This creates a foundation for their active participation in the learning process and rapid adaptation to the academic environment in the future.
Such events not only ensure the openness of the education system but also strengthen the connection between society and educational institutions. In addition, they help young people make a conscious choice of their future profession and lay the foundation for their personal and professional development.
