KazNU students become prize winners of the International Applied Mechanics Olympiad
Almaty, 2026 — Students of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of 91ý Kazakh National University won prize places at the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Applied Mechanics with international participation.
The competition was held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and brought together 23 teams from 19 universities across Russia and CIS countries. Participants demonstrated their knowledge in theoretical mechanics and strength of materials and took part in an engineering challenge focused on bridge design and testing.
As a result, the first KazNU team (Akerke Sultanmurat, Nurtas Zhumagali, Raimbek Naimanov, Altynbek Abai) won 2nd place. The second team (Elzhas Yesen, Altynai Khudaybergenova, Rustem Makhmut, Bauyrzhan Sailauov) took 3rd place.
Scientific supervisor — Birlik Sagitzhanov, senior lecturer at the Department of Mechanics of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.
The team also received a prize in the engineering competition. Students were awarded diplomas, and the university rector received a letter of appreciation.
This achievement contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
It also aligns with Kazakhstan’s Mechanical Engineering Development Plan for 2024–2028.
