The personal book collection of the famous American historian Seymour Becker (1934-2020) was donated to the scientific library of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The Scientific Center "History and Culture of Central Eurasia" of the Faculty of History held a special briefing for the presentation of the collection.

The event was attended by Professor Alexander Semenov of Amherst College (USA), descendants of S. Becker Jeffrey and Susan (in online format), as well as teachers, students and staff of the university library.

Seymour Becker is an internationally renowned scientist who has made an invaluable contribution to the study of the social history of Central Asia, the Russian Empire and the Soviet period. His fundamental works have been highly appreciated in world historiography.

Among the valuable publications that arrived from overseas are 220 books from the professor's personal library. The collection covers such areas as world history, historiography, source studies, and methodology of history. The transfer of the book collection to Kazakhstan was directly supported by the Consulate General of our country in the USA.

Dean of the Faculty of History Dosbol Baigunakov, emphasizing the scientific significance of the gift, noted: "These works are not only a valuable scientific collection, but also an important academic bridge between research schools in different countries. The collection opens up new opportunities for scientists seeking to study the history of Central Asia and imperial transformations in depth".

According to the participants of the meeting, the new collection will become an invaluable scientific resource for teachers and students specializing in the history of Central Asia and the Soviet era.
