KazNU scientists are implementing a project on the sustainable development of Southern Kazakhstan

Scientists of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University are successfully implementing a program-oriented financing project "Development of innovative technologies and creation of modern infrastructure for sustainable development of the South Kazakhstan region". This large-scale initiative is being implemented on the basis of a strategic scientific partnership jointly with the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after H.A.Yasawi, Nazarbayev University and the Institute of Genetics and Physiology.

The main goal of the project is to create a modern research ecosystem in the country's regions, transform the scientific potential of young researchers and introduce innovative solutions into production that produce concrete results in the fields of medicine, biotechnology and ecology.

The project consolidated the fundamental intellectual and scientific resources of the Faculties of Biology and Biotechnology, information Technology and artificial intelligence, as well as medicine and healthcare of KazNU. The result of this interdisciplinary collaboration was the opening of 13 research laboratories, fully equipped with modern equipment. Today, these centers have become key scientific hubs for doctoral students and young research engineers, allowing them to carry out scientific work according to international standards.

At the same time, university scientists demonstrate high results in the field of green technologies. For example, highly effective organomineral fertilizers and microbiological inoculants for the restoration of saline soils have been developed and are undergoing field tests. Remote sensing technologies using drones have been introduced for digital monitoring of land resources and control of environmental processes. Environmental data analysis and forecasting systems based on artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) have been transferred to a special digital platform, which has brought monitoring to a new qualitative level.

With the direct participation of KazNU scientists, unique scientific solutions adapted to the natural and climatic conditions of the Aral-Syrdarya region are being developed. In particular, significant results have been achieved in the conservation of biodiversity, as well as in the cultivation of crops resistant to drought and high temperatures, which contributes to strengthening the ecological and agrarian stability of the region. In the field of biotechnology, molecular genetic methods of plant protection have been comprehensively studied, and the practice of sustainable development of beekeeping is being improved. Technologies for efficient processing of biological resources have also been proposed and innovative solutions in the field of feed production have been developed, which opens up new opportunities for improving the efficiency of the agro-industrial complex.

Another strategic priority of the project is to strengthen the system of training new-generation scientific personnel. To this end, relevant applied research topics directly related to the objectives of sustainable development of the region were approved for PhD students. Currently, a number of young scientists are at the stage of completing their dissertations. In addition, KazNU carries out an important mentoring mission aimed at developing a research culture in regional universities. The university's experts provide systematic methodological support for the publication of scientific articles in the Scopus and Web of Science databases, conducting patenting procedures and preparing doctoral students for defense.

These scientific and innovative initiatives fully comply with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the national environmental program "Таза Қазақстан", implemented with the support of the Head of State. Thus, the developments of the university's scientists directly serve to ensure high-quality education, the development of sustainable infrastructure, effective counteraction to climate change and the preservation of the ecological purity of the country.
