KazNU young scientists entered the top three at the international competition
Young researchers of the UNESCO Department of Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University have achieved great success at the international level. The EcoNomads KZ team, consisting of doctoral students and a master's student, won the third prize at the international Anthropocene Case Competition 2026 Finals.
This prestigious competition, held in the city of ö on the basis of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (MATE), was dedicated to the future of the food industry, sustainable development and circular economy. 85 teams from 26 countries took part in the global competition, and only the 13 best qualified teams competed in the finals.

The team, created under the guidance of senior lecturer Olga Zubova, included PhD doctoral student in the specialty "Ecology" Dana Akhmetzhanova (group leader), PhD doctoral student in the specialty "Geoecology and Environmental Management" Aitalyn Alimuratkyzy and master's student in the specialty "Ecology" Rosa Musagalieva.

KazNU young scientists presented a unique project for the production of highly recyclable products by recycling poultry waste. As part of the innovative research, the mechanisms for obtaining activated carbon from bird feathers, developing high-quality protein feed from industrial waste, and implementing a waste-free production model were demonstrated. The project fully covered the areas of efficient use of water resources, biosafety and carbon footprint reduction.

The international jury highly appreciated the scientifically sound, environmentally and economically efficient solutions of the EcoNomads KZ team. This victory demonstrated KazNU's high international scientific potential in the field of sustainable development, ecology and green technologies.
