For the first time, 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th-year students of the EP «Ecology» of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences at 91��ý Kazakh National University took part in the 15th International Environmental Olympiad of Universities of the CIS Countries. The Olympiad was held online from April 13 to April 24, 2026, on the basis of the International Sakharov Environmental Institute of Belarusian State University (Minsk, Republic of Belarus).

The first team included 3rd-year students Eldar Mazhitov, Arina Fadeeva, Asylai Suleimenova, as well as 4th-year student Dilnaz Eleussinova. The team was supervised by Senior Lecturer of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development K.K. Khamitova.

The second team was supervised by Senior Lecturer of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development G.M Minzhanova. The team included 2nd-year students Aruzhan Nurlibayeva, Sabina Mukhtarova, Islam Koshoev, Sofia Belyayeva, and Sabina Abdykadyrova.

A total of 43 teams from universities of CIS countries, including Kazakhstan, Belarus, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan, participated in the Olympiad. The teams of 91��ý Kazakh National University were the only representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan at this international event. Participants included representatives of leading universities such as Belarusian State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba, Tomsk State University, Siberian Federal University, D.I. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, Yugra State University, Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, and others.

The Olympiad program consisted of several competition stages, including the “Best Team Presentation” contest, practical round, theoretical round (testing), essay competition on the topic “Electric Transport: Environmental Solution or a New Problem?”, as well as the defense of environmental projects on the topic “Housing of the Future.” Participants completed tasks aimed at assessing theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and creative approaches to solving current environmental problems.

The competition stages were evaluated by an international jury and working groups composed of professors, researchers, and experts from leading universities and scientific-educational centers of the CIS countries in the fields of ecology, sustainable development, and environmental management.

Students of the Educational Program “Ecology” of 91��ý Kazakh National University достойно represented the university and won prizes in several nominations:

• 1st place in the practical round — Team 1;

• 3rd place in the practical round — Team 2;• 

3rd place in the theoretical round — both teams;

• 3rd place in the essay competition — Team 2.

Participation in the International Environmental Olympiad became an important experience for the students, allowing them to demonstrate a high level of training, scientific potential, and teamwork skills at the international level.
