At the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences, the defense of master’s research projects was held. Master’s student of the “Environmental Soil Science” program, Kadyr S.S., presented the results of the study entitled “Assessment of the Environmental Effectiveness of Implementing International and Corporate Standards for Sustainable Land Use.”

The research focused on environmental sustainability issues in Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector. The study examined the effectiveness of implementing ESG approaches, international sustainable development standards, and circular economy principles.

The findings revealed that approximately 75% of Kazakhstan’s agricultural lands are affected by degradation, while nearly 90 million hectares are at risk of erosion. The study also highlighted issues related to soil salinization and water resource shortages.

The research demonstrated the high potential of recycling organic waste, producing compost and organic fertilizers, and developing biodegradable hydrogel materials. During the defense, practical recommendations aimed at improving the environmental and resource sustainability of food industry enterprises were discussed.
