"Text Culture: From Discourse to the Quality of Consciousness": An Insightful Lecture at KazNU

Within the framework of the "Quality Education" concept of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a lecture was held on the topic: "Text Culture: From Discourse to the Quality of Consciousness (On the Example of 'Ana Tili' Newspaper)." The guest speaker was Karagoz Smadil, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the republican national newspaper "Ana Tili," a well-known journalist, translator, and an alumnus of our faculty.

The event was organized by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Acting Head of the Department of Philosophy, Acting Associate Professor Nazgul Zhanyskyzy and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Acting Associate Professor Doszhan Balabekuly.

During the lecture, the speaker reviewed the historical archival materials of the "Ana Tili" newspaper, which has been published since 1990, highlighting its unique textual culture and characteristics. According to her, though writing styles may vary across eras, the core worldview remains constant.

Furthermore, it was discussed that many archaic words have fallen out of use and are fading into oblivion. The newspaper's editorial board is actively striving to revive such words and restore them in the readers' memory.

Karagoz Smadil placed special emphasis on the fact that the nuances and meanings of words shift over time within textual criticism. The usage and meaning of obsolete words fluctuate in every era depending on socio-historical contexts. Therefore, she noted the necessity of considering these specific features during philological analysis. It was brought to attention that philosophers, when researching historical data, traditions, and human existence, must thoroughly analyze linguistic and textual dimensions.

The speaker also emphasized that the impact of text culture on public consciousness is highly critical for the media industry as well.

As part of the event, an educational game based on identifying hidden archaic words was organized for the students. Active participants were presented with gifts. At the end of the meeting, the learners enhanced their text-analysis skills utilizing the historical pages of the "Ana Tili" newspaper and expressed their gratitude to the guest.
