On the Commencement of the XXVIII International Akhanov Readings

  On June 5, 2026, the XXVIII International Akhanov Readings, a major international scientific forum, commenced in Almaty at 91ý Kazakh National University. This year, the conference, which has become a traditional and authoritative platform for global academic dialogue, is held in a hybrid (offline and online) format, bringing together leading scientific and educational centers from Kazakhstan, Russia, Türkiye, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and the USA.

The official opening and the first half of the forum's inaugural day (until 15:00) were marked by a large-scale Plenary Session that united prominent scholars, research administrators, and young researchers.

Official Opening and Welcoming Remarks 

The global forum was moderated by Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor R.A. Avakova and Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor G.B. Madiyeva.

  • William Patrick Rivers — Senior Researcher at the Center for Research under the American Councils (ACTR/ACCELS), Doctor PhD (USA);

  • A.R. Akhatov — Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at Sharof Rashidov Samarkand State University, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor (Uzbekistan);

  • B.U. Zholdasbekova — Dean of the Faculty of Philology at 91ý KazNU, Academician of the NAS RK, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor (Kazakhstan).

The speakers emphasized the fundamental importance of the Akhanov Readings for the advancement of modern linguistics, the digitalization of philological education, and the strengthening of transnational academic partnerships.

The program of the plenary part covered cutting-edge directions in humanitarian research—ranging from language contacts and the preservation of cultural identity to the integration of artificial intelligence into the educational environment. The following reports were presented and discussed:

  • Professor Ouanes Hafiane (University of Carthage, Tunisia) provided a profound analysis of the Tunisian dialect through the prism of language contact and cultural transfer.

  • Associate Professor Aydan Irgatoğlu (Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University) and Professor Oğuz Yurttadur(Selçuk University, Türkiye) shared advanced practices of co-creating with AI, digital storytelling, and collaborative learning in AI-supported classrooms.

  • Professor U.M. Bakhtikireeva (Patrice Lumumba RUDN University, Russia) dedicated her presentation to the evolution of writing systems within the context of the fundamental concept of the prominent scholar A.S. Amanzholov, "History and Theory of Ancient Turkic Script".

  • Professor Yana A. Volkova (IFL RUDN University, Russia) revealed the semiotic nature of AI-generated texts, closely examining emotivity as a mechanism for simulating human emotionality.

  • Professor Azamat Akbarov (Asia International University, Uzbekistan) highlighted the role of language as a carrier of cultural identity and the specific interrelation between linguistic expression and cultural meanings in the digital era.

  • Professor N.A. Akhrenova (IFL RUDN University, Russia) presented a report on the transformation of "self-other" cultural codes in Russian and English under the strong influence of internet communication and AI.

  • Doctor PhD Zh.S. Smagulova (Dean of the College of Human Sciences and Education at KIMEP University, Kazakhstan) summarized the theoretical section of the plenary session, outlining key discussions and contemporary challenges in the professional training of linguists.

Following the initial summaries and a brief intermission, the conference operations extended into specialized sections dedicated to a detailed analysis of semiotics, digital linguodidactics, intercultural communication, and the design of modern educational programs.
