ACADEMIC MOBILITY AND CULTURAL DIPLOMACY: EXPERIENCE OF AN INTERNSHIP AT TÜRKSOY AND PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS OF THE TURKIC WORLD
Within the framework of the academic mobility program, Arlan Aner, a first-year Master's student of the Department of Turkology and History of Eastern Countries at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, is currently studying at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University in Türkiye while simultaneously undertaking an internship at the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) under the supervision of Nyshankul Karatayeva, the Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to TÜRKSOY.
The internship serves as an important practical component of the academic mobility program and provides an opportunity to gain experience within one of the leading international organizations of the Turkic world. During the internship, the Master's student participates in the preparation and implementation of international cultural, scientific, and public events aimed at strengthening humanitarian cooperation among Turkic states, preserving common historical and cultural heritage, and promoting intercultural dialogue.

On June 4, 2026, Arlan Aner received a certificate of appreciation for his contribution to the organization of events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the distinguished Kazakh composer, musicologist, and public figure Akhmet Zhubanov. The program was implemented by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) in Ankara. The anniversary events included an exhibition dedicated to the life and legacy of Akhmet Zhubanov, an official opening ceremony, and a concert program aimed at promoting Kazakhstan’s musical heritage in the international cultural arena.

Participation in organizing international events contributes to the development of professional competencies in cultural diplomacy, international relations, and project management while providing opportunities to apply academic knowledge gained through studies in Oriental Studies, Turkology, and international humanitarian cooperation. This activity is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it promotes international cooperation, academic mobility, knowledge exchange, and stronger humanitarian ties among nations.
This experience is particularly significant in terms of preparing globally competitive professionals. The involvement of a KazNU Master's student in the activities of an international organization demonstrates the high quality of education provided by the Department of Turkology and History of Eastern Countries and confirms that its graduates are capable of successfully pursuing careers in international organizations, diplomatic missions, analytical centers, research institutions, and cultural diplomacy structures. Such achievements highlight the practical value of academic training, strengthen the university’s international reputation, and contribute to the promotion of Kazakhstan’s higher education system on the global stage.
