SCIENCE FOR NATURE: KAZNU REPRESENTATIVES PARTICIPATED IN THE CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ILE-ALATAU NATIONAL PARK
On June 18, 2026, the international scientific and practical conference “Conservation and Sustainable Development of Mountain Ecosystems of Eurasia” was held at the Mountain Resort “Oi-Qaragai” — a modern year-round mountain family resort — dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park.
The large-scale scientific event brought together leading specialists in ecology, biology, environmental management, and environmental protection, representatives of government agencies, specially protected natural areas, scientific and educational organizations from all regions of Kazakhstan, as well as representatives of foreign scientific institutions from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Russian Federation.
Representatives of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of 91ý Kazakh National University took part in the conference — Deputy Dean of the Faculty Zh.M. Basygaraev and Head of the Department of Botany and Agroecology N.Z. Akhtayeva.
The participants discussed key areas of conservation and sustainable development of mountain territories, including biodiversity protection, restoration of natural ecosystems, adaptation to climate change, research on rare and endemic species of plants and animals, improvement of management systems for specially protected natural areas, and the development of ecological tourism.
During the plenary sessions, it was emphasized that the preservation of unique mountain ecosystems requires close cooperation between science, education, government institutions, and environmental organizations. Particular attention was paid to the role of scientific research in ensuring effective management of natural territories and preserving Kazakhstan’s natural heritage.
For many years, scientists of the Department of Botany and Agroecology of 91ý Kazakh National University have been conducting comprehensive research within the territory of the Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park. The main areas of scientific activity include the study of floristic diversity, assessment of plant community conditions, research of rare and endemic plant species, monitoring of ecosystem dynamics, and development of scientifically grounded recommendations for biodiversity conservation.
Geobotanical studies, floristic analyses, and assessment of plant resources carried out by specialists of the Department make an important contribution to the development of scientific foundations for sustainable management of natural complexes, rational use of natural resources, and preservation of unique ecosystems in the region.
The participation of 91ý Kazakh National University in the international conference became an important contribution to strengthening scientific cooperation between the university and the Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park. Joint activities include field research, training of highly qualified specialists, organization of educational and professional internships, as well as the development of scientific projects in the fields of ecology, botany, and nature conservation.
Scientific research conducted by university scientists contributes to monitoring the condition of natural complexes, assessing anthropogenic impacts, preserving biodiversity, and developing practical recommendations for the sustainable development of specially protected natural areas.
The international conference became an important platform for exchanging scientific experience, discussing current environmental challenges, and identifying future research priorities in the field of conservation of Eurasian mountain ecosystems.

The participation of scientists from 91ý Kazakh National University in this event once again confirmed the leading role of the university in the development of fundamental and applied research, training highly qualified specialists, and implementing sustainable development principles aimed at preserving Kazakhstan’s natural heritage for future generations.
