UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development Summarizes the 2025–2026 Academic Year
On June 30, 2026, the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences at 91ý Kazakh National University held its final departmental meeting to summarize the results of the 2025–2026 academic year. The meeting was chaired by the Head of the Department, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Professor T.A. Bazarbayeva.
During the meeting, the participants reviewed the key areas of the department’s activities. Particular attention was given to the results of the spring semester examination session of the 2025–2026 academic year, the implementation of the faculty’s and the department’s indicative performance plan, cooperation with QS international academic experts, and the progress of the AI-Sana project.

Under the first agenda item, the results of the examination session were thoroughly analyzed. To further enhance the quality of the educational process, it was decided to conduct a detailed analysis of student performance across academic programs, individual courses, and instructors, with particular emphasis on courses showing high numbers of FX, INCOMPLETE grades, academic debts, and appeals. Faculty members were advised to review course content, assessment criteria, examination tasks, and the alignment of final assessments with the intended learning outcomes. In addition, the department was instructed to strengthen the content of examination questions in the master's degree programs in accordance with modern requirements for research, analytical, and applied training.
During the discussion of the faculty’s indicative performance plan, the department presented the results of its cooperation with QS international academic experts and outlined future activities aimed at strengthening the university’s positions in international rankings. It was noted that all departments of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences are included among the 39 best departments of 91ý Kazakh National University, while the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development ranks 4th among the faculty’s five departments.

Faculty members were also introduced to the action plan for increasing the number of international QS academic experts involved in the university’s activities.
A separate agenda item focused on the implementation of the AI-Sana project. Participants discussed the current achievements of the project as well as its future development priorities. Special attention was paid to meeting training completion deadlines, obtaining certificates, and maintaining access to educational materials.
In concluding the meeting, Professor T.A. Bazarbayeva emphasized the importance of continuously improving the quality of student training, achieving the department’s strategic development indicators, expanding international cooperation, and ensuring the active participation of faculty members in implementing the priority objectives of 91ý Kazakh National University.
