An international meeting aimed at strengthening the position of national science on the world stage was held at the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was attended by a special guest, Ali Abushavar, Regional manager of the international publishing company Wiley for the Middle East and Central Asia.

The meeting was attended by Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board, ViceRector for Scientific and Innovative Activities at KazNU, Nursultan Kayynbayev, Chairman of the Board of the National Center for State Scientific and Technical Expertise, Yertai Sultan, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at Abai KazNPU, as well as the editors-in-chief of domestic scientific journals included in the Scopus database.

Opening the meeting, Vice Rector of KazNU Margulan Ibraimov stressed the importance of promoting domestic science to the international level: "Today, the integration of research by domestic scientists into the global scientific community is one of our key priorities. Partnership with such global giants of the publishing industry as Wiley opens up great opportunities for improving the quality of Kazakhstani scientific journals and the recognition of our scientists in the international academic community," M.Ibraimov said.

The issues of supporting research processes in Kazakhstan and the development of Open Access programs were discussed in detail on the agenda. In this context, priority was given to strengthening the long-term strategic partnership between Wiley and the scientific community of Kazakhstan. In addition, the parties considered ways to improve the quality and recognition of Kazakhstani research in the international arena, as well as to bring domestic scientific journals in line with the international standards of Scopus and other reputable databases.

In turn, Wiley representative Ali Abushavar highly appreciated the scientific potential of Kazakhstan and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation.: "Universities and research centers in Kazakhstan have high research potential. Our goal is to provide editorial support to Kazakhstani scientists in accordance with international standards and make their works available to a global audience through the Open Access format," A.Abushavar emphasized.

During the meeting, experts and representatives of scientific organizations noted that direct cooperation with major international publishers opens up new opportunities for Russian researchers in the global scientific space. At the end, the editors-in-chief of Scopus journals and the Wiley expert exchanged experiences on improving the quality of scientific publications.
