KazNU holds Robotics Championship

The UPGrade&Daryn FIRST Scrimmage robotics championship among schoolchildren was held at al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The event was organized by the Center for Commercialization of Technologies and Creative Industries of KazNU together with the Center for Identification and Support of Gifted Children and Talented Youth "Almaty Daryny".

More than 185 students from 54 teams of secondary schools and lyceums of Almaty took part in the championship. The participants competed among themselves in the design, programming and management of robotic systems, demonstrating a high level of engineering training, teamwork and innovative thinking.

The competitions were held in accordance with the standards of the international FIRST program and included tasks on autonomous robot control, technical missions, and protection of engineering projects. The students' work was evaluated by KazNU teachers, representatives of educational organizations, experts in the field of IT and robotics.

Following the results of the championship, the winners and prize-winners were awarded with diplomas, medals and memorable prizes. In addition, with the support of the Almaty City Education Department, the Almaty Daryny Center provided financial sponsorship in the amount of 500 thousand tenge to the winners for the development of projects and further education.

As an additional incentive for the participants, Middle East Technical University (METU) provided educational grants to the winners of grades 10-11, opening up the opportunity to continue their studies at one of the world's leading technical universities.

The event directly contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals through the introduction of digital technologies (digital inclusion), increased participation in the educational process (educational inclusion), the development of STEM education (STEM education), support for gifted youth and the formation of the innovation ecosystem of KazNU (innovation systems). In addition, the participation of women's teams in the championship and the active involvement of girls in the field of robotics contribute to the promotion of the "Women in STEM" initiative, strengthening gender equality and increasing girls' interest in scientific and technical areas.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and partner organizations plan to continue implementing joint initiatives aimed at identifying talents and developing Kazakhstan's scientific and technical potential.
