Results of the Interuniversity Olympiad “The Chemical Challenge” at 91ý Kazakh National University
On February 11–12, 2026, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology hosted the “The Chemical Challenge” Chemistry Olympiad, dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist, академician, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a prominent organizer of science in Kazakhstan, D. V. Sokolsky. The event was organized by KazNU student chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), JSC “D. V. Sokolsky Institute of Fuel, Catalysis and Electrochemistry” in cooperation with the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry. The Olympiad was held at the National Library of 91ý Kazakh National University.
The interuniversity Olympiad brought together 45 students from leading universities in Almaty, including KBTU, Satbayev University, Abai KazNPU, ATU, and 91ý KazNU.
During the first day of the competition, contestants completed chemistry tests and worked on logic tasks. Based on the results of Rounds I and II, 35 participants advanced to Round III. In the third round, undergraduate, master’s and PhD students were offered chemistry problem-solving tasks.
The winners were determined in the final stage based on the highest scores.
The organizers decided to provide financial awards to the top five finalists. The total prize fund provided by the event sponsor amounted to 500,000 tenge.
Deputy Director of JSC “D. V. Sokolsky Institute of Fuel, Catalysis and Electrochemistry”, PhD, Associate Professor E. T. Talgatov presented the winners and participants with diplomas and commemorative gifts. The Olympiad offered participants an opportunity not only to demonstrate their knowledge and ability to solve challenging logic and chemistry problems in the fields of chemistry, catalysis and electrochemistry, but also to undertake a summer internship in the institute’s laboratories and gain valuable practical experience.
