AI-Based Environmental Projects Competition

On March 18, 2026, the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence hosted an AI-based Environmental Projects Competition organized by the Departments of “Artificial Intelligence and Big Data” and “Cybersecurity and Cryptology.”

The event aimed to promote research activities among undergraduate and graduate students, as well as young researchers, and to foster interdisciplinary competencies at the intersection of environmental studies and digital technologies. In the context of global environmental challenges, the application of data analytics and artificial intelligence has become increasingly important, forming the core concept of this competition.

Within the framework of the competition, participants presented innovative projects addressing environmental protection, sustainable use of natural resources, and solutions to pressing ecological issues. The projects covered areas such as intelligent environmental monitoring systems, ecological risk prediction, climate data analysis, resource optimization, and digital tools for increasing environmental awareness.

Special attention was given to the practical relevance, level of innovation, and real-world applicability of the projects. Participants demonstrated a high level of expertise, creativity, and the ability to apply machine learning, big data analytics, and computer vision techniques to solve environmental problems.

The following students from our department participated in the competition and presented their projects:

  • Baidulla Aiaulym — 2nd year, Educational Program 8D07116 “Intelligent Control Systems”;

  • Galymkyzy Nazerke — 4th year, Educational Program 6B06107 “Data Science”;

  • Kulybek Zhansaya Abdulakhatkyzy — 4th year, Educational Program 6B06107 “Data Science”;

  • Zhetesov Arman Nurlanuly — 2nd year, Educational Program 6B07113 “Intelligent Control Systems”.

The competition contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education, by enhancing students’ research and project-based skills;

  • SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the promotion of AI-driven technological solutions;

  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, by developing environmentally sustainable urban solutions;

  • SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, through projects focused on efficient resource use;

  • SDG 13 – Climate Action, via analysis and prediction of environmental and climate processes;

  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, by encouraging collaboration between departments and participants.

The main objective of the competition was to identify and support advanced ideas focused on applying artificial intelligence technologies to environmental challenges, as well as to develop the scientific, analytical, and creative potential of students and young researchers.

As a result of the event, the best projects were selected based on their innovation, practical value, and scientific contribution. The competition served as an important platform for knowledge exchange, idea presentation, and the development of professional competencies in artificial intelligence and sustainable development.
