«Literary Scholar and Creative Work»
On February 27, 2026, under the supervision of senior lecturer of the department of Kazakh literature and literary theory at 91ý Kazakh National University, candidate of philological sciences Y.M. Soltanayeva, and doctor of Philological sciences, assistant professor G.Zh. Bolatova, and based on SDG 4 – “quality education,” first-year doctoral student of the “literary studies” educational program T.N. Nyshanbayeva conducted an open lecture for first-year students majoring in “literary studies” on the subject “Introduction to the specialty” on the topic “literary scholar and creative work.”
The main objective of the open lecture was to explain to first-year students the difference between the concepts of “literature” and “literary studies,” as well as to introduce the key responsibilities of a literary scholar, their role in the academic community, and their place in society.

Literature is a form of creative art, whereas literary studies is a distinct type of science. Creative work is the process of transforming “raw” linguistic material into a complex aesthetic object through specialized mastery. The task of a literary scholar is to convert this creative experience into a system of knowledge at an intellectual level.
The primary object of literary studies is not literature itself, but its “literariness,” that is, the specific structure that transforms a verbal message into a work of art. If a writer is an “engineer” who creates an artistic world, then a literary scholar is a researcher who reveals the laws of this world and scientifically substantiates its significance.
The issues examined within the topic “Literary scholar and creative work” demonstrated that literature is not only an object of emotional perception, but also a complex intellectual and structural system.
Towards the end of the lecture, students shared their opinions on the new information presented. As homework, they were assigned to familiarize themselves with the works of authors that will be discussed in the seminar session.
