From Theory to Practice: Students’ Field Visit to a Tourist Center

On February 28, 2026, an informative and practice-oriented event was organized for 3rd-year students of the “6B11101 – Tourism” educational program within the course “Promotion and Commercialization of Tourism Services.” In particular, the students visited the Tourist Information Center located near Atakent Exhibition Center, where they became acquainted with the real working processes in the tourism industry. The main purpose of the event was to combine the theoretical knowledge of future tourism professionals with practical experience, demonstrate the mechanisms of promoting tourism services in practice, and expand students’ understanding of current trends in the development of the industry.

The event was organized under the guidance of senior lecturer of the Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism, Pazylhair B.M.. At the center, the students were welcomed by an experienced consultant, who provided a comprehensive overview of the center’s main areas of activity and its daily operations. According to the consultant, the primary mission of the center is to provide high-quality informational services to tourists visiting Almaty, offer guidance on tourist routes, and promote the city’s tourism potential at the international level.

During the excursion, students received detailed information about modern methods of working with tourists, preparation of informational materials, use of digital platforms, and ways to promote tourism products through social media. In addition, key issues such as bringing tourism products to the market, their effective commercialization, and adaptation to consumer demand were widely discussed.

In the practical part, students explored real-life cases and analyzed scenarios of tourist service. This helped them develop professional skills and improve their ability to build effective communication with clients. The event generated great interest among students and contributed to a clearer understanding of their future professional direction. Such practical activities enhance the quality of the educational process and undoubtedly have a positive impact on shaping competitive specialists ready for the labor market. At the end of the event, students expressed their gratitude to the center’s staff and shared their impressions and newly acquired knowledge.
