KazNU graduate supported the development of science
Within the framework of the Day of Science Workers, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the grand opening of new educational and scientific spaces - the auditorium "Modeling of Hydrological Processes" and the laboratory "Hydrometry and Water Engineering Surveys".
The commissioning of this classroom and laboratory is a systematic step aimed at increasing the educational and research potential in the field of hydrology and water resources management.
Advanced geoinformation and hydrological systems, including ArcGIS Pro, HEC-RAS and StokStat, have been implemented in the classroom, which allows for high-level hydrological process modeling, spatial data analysis and calculation of water characteristics.
The educational laboratory is focused on practical training of students and conducting applied research. Hydrometric measurements, analysis of parameters of water bodies, organization of field research and assessment of water infrastructure are carried out here. Working with real data allows students to develop professional competencies that are in demand in the industry.
At the ceremony, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of KazNU Alina Galeeva noted that "Today we are opening not just classrooms, but modern scientific and educational spaces where students can work with real data, master advanced technologies and solve applied problems of hydrology in the learning process. The issues of water security and sustainable resource management are particularly relevant today. That is why such laboratories are becoming a key platform for training specialists capable of meeting modern challenges".
The Director of the Institute of Geography and Water Security, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Akhmetkal Medeu, as well as representatives of the academic community and partner organizations delivered a congratulatory speech.
It should be noted that the contribution of Nurbol Bekarimov, a graduate and sponsor of the project, is of particular importance, thanks to whose support the laboratory's material and technical base was modernized.
