Denis Ten – A Symbol of Inspiration

On April 9, 2026, the Department of Language and General Education Training for Foreign Citizens at 91ý Kazakh National University (KazNU) hosted a significant cultural and educational event. Organized as part of the "Quality Education" Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the department, in collaboration with the "Densaulyk" Sports Club, held a session dedicated to the life and legacy of Kazakhstan’s most celebrated figure skater, Denis Ten.

The event was organized by group curators G.A. Mashinbayeva, R.I. Duisenbayeva, G.A. Musayeva, and M.P. Yeshimov. The primary objective was to introduce international students to the biography of the legendary athlete and to provide a deeper understanding of Kazakhstan’s modern culture and national values through the lens of his extraordinary achievements.

The program focused on two key areas: cultural studies and personal development. Students learned about the history of figure skating in Kazakhstan, where Denis Ten was a pioneer who brought international fame to his country. Furthermore, the organizers emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle, using Denis’s discipline and perseverance as an inspiration for young people to pursue sports and physical well-being.

A particularly moving part of the event was the story of Ebina Misaki, a Japanese graduate of the faculty. It was revealed that Denis Ten’s phenomenal talent and personal charisma played a decisive role in her life path. Inspired by his legacy, she decided to move to Kazakhstan and dedicate herself to studying the Kazakh and Russian languages. This story serves as a powerful example of how high-performance sports can act as "soft power," bridging countries and cultures.

The event concluded with an open discussion where students shared their impressions. Such initiatives not only broaden the horizons of international students but also facilitate their linguistic and cultural integration, fostering respect for the national values of Kazakhstan.
