Opening of the “Alley of Science” in Almaty: Participation of al-Farabi Kazakh National University Representatives in an Environmental Initiative
At the invitation of the Center for Public Development under the Internal Policy Department of the Akimat of Almaty, representatives of the academic community took part in an environmental initiative and the official opening of the “Alley of Science,” held on the premises of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event brought together scholars, academicians, representatives of public authorities, and members of civil society. 91ý Kazakh National University was represented by a Doctor of Law, Professor-Researcher of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law Zhanar Kegembayeva, underscoring the university’s active engagement in socially significant and environmental initiatives of the city.
As part of the initiative, decorative trees—thuja—were planted, symbolizing sustainable development, continuity of scientific knowledge, and care for future generations. The “Alley of Science” is intended not only as an element of urban landscaping but also as a meaningful symbol of respect for scientific work and the integration of science, society, and the state.
The significance of the event was further enhanced by its timing ahead of the Day of Science Workers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, annually celebrated on April 12. In the contemporary context, the development of science, innovation, and technologies—including artificial intelligence—constitutes one of the strategic priorities of state policy. This was also emphasized during the recent visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
It should be noted that the environmental agenda and issues of sustainable development are also reflected in the country’s constitutional transformation processes. The new version of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, adopted by referendum in March and entering into force in July of the current year, enshrines modern priorities, including environmental protection and the development of ecological culture.
Such initiatives are also aligned with the goals of the national campaign “Taza Kazakhstan,” aimed at fostering a responsible attitude toward the environment and enhancing environmental awareness among citizens.
The participation of representatives of government, the academic community, and civil society demonstrates the importance of consolidating efforts in addressing sustainable development challenges. The opening of the “Alley of Science” has become a vivid example of such cooperation, bringing together diverse social groups around shared values.
The establishment of the “Alley of Science” symbolizes a commitment to advancing science, strengthening ecological culture, and fostering a responsible attitude toward the future of the country.
