As part of SDG 6 — “Clean Water and Sanitation,” an open educational session was held on the topic “Clean Kazakhstan”

On April 15, 2026, at 91ý Kazakh National University, at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, a curatorial session was held for first-year students of the educational program “6B05301 – Chemistry” on the topic “Clean Kazakhstan” within the framework of the 6th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 6) — “Clean Water and Sanitation.”

During the event, students discussed the global problem of water scarcity. In particular, according to the United Nations, more than 2 billion people currently do not have access to safe drinking water. Climate change is intensifying droughts and reducing freshwater resources. In addition, the threat of the shallowing of the Aral Sea and Lake Balkhash in our country is a clear sign of a regional environmental crisis and the limited nature of water resources.

While discussing measures to prevent water pollution, students also addressed the issue of household and industrial waste. The group’s curator-advisor, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Physics and Materials Science, Zh.B. Kudyarova, highlighted mechanical, biological, and chemical methods of water purification and encouraged students to use drinking water rationally.

Despite the fact that water is the source of life and one of the most important resources for humanity and nature, the problem of water pollution and the shortage of clean water remains highly relevant today. Therefore, it is extremely important to foster environmental awareness in society—each individual should treat nature and the environment responsibly and contribute to the protection of water resources.
