On April 21, within the 2025–2026 academic year, the ceremonial opening of the “Plant Resources and Pharmacobotany” laboratory took place at the Department of Botany and Agroecology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of 91ý Kazakh National University.

This new scientific infrastructure facility is an important initiative aimed at advancing fundamental and applied research in the fields of botany, ecology, pharmacology, and biomedicine. The laboratory provides opportunities for comprehensive research on plant bioresources, identification of biologically active compounds in medicinal plants, conservation and propagation of rare and endemic species, as well as pharmacological evaluation of plants with high medicinal value. Thus, the new laboratory opens up new prospects for the scientific study of natural plant resources and for the development of modern approaches to their efficient use.
In addition, the laboratory is equipped with modern instruments and equipment. This, in turn, creates favorable conditions for training highly qualified scientific personnel, enhancing the research potential of young scholars, and expanding international scientific cooperation.

The ceremonial event was attended by Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Kanseituly Tuimebayev, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Amangeldy Kuanbayuly Bisenbayev, as well as scientists from research institutes, veteran biology teachers, and students.
In his opening remarks at the ceremony, University Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted that the launch of the new laboratory would give fresh momentum to the development of university science. According to him, such research centers strengthen the integration of science and education and provide broad opportunities for doctoral students and young researchers to pursue scientific inquiry. He also emphasized that this initiative would contribute to the professional development of young scientists and make a significant contribution to the advancement of university science.

Overall, the opening of the laboratory plays an important role in implementing the university’s scientific and innovative development strategy, strengthening the integration of education and science, and making a substantial contribution to addressing the issues of conservation and effective use of Kazakhstan’s plant resources. The laboratory will operate within the university and will become an important structural unit integrating students’ research activities with both fundamental and applied science.

The “Plant Resources and Pharmacobotany” Laboratory was established on the initiative of leading scientist, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Professor Bekzat Makulbayuly Tynybekov.
