On April 22, 2026, faculty members and researchers of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences are participating in the Regional Environmental Summit RES-2026 held in Astana, bringing together representatives of governments, international organizations, the scientific community, and expert circles.

In his opening remarks, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasized the strategic importance of the environmental agenda, stating:
“Modern ecology is not limited to climate issues. It is the foundation of human existence. It is about clean air and safe water, healthy soil and a reliable food system, the stability of communities and the well-being of future generations. It also concerns clarity of mind, social harmony, and human happiness. In this broader sense, ecology is a way of life based on responsible stewardship of our shared planet. Therefore, today’s summit is both timely and essential.”

The Head of State also highlighted the need for consolidated regional efforts to address pressing environmental challenges, including climate change, water scarcity, and sustainable development.

Within the framework of the summit, faculty representatives are participating in various thematic sessions focused on environmental issues, hydrometeorology, climate change adaptation, and land resource management. These platforms provide opportunities to discuss key regional challenges such as water scarcity, transboundary water cooperation, and climate-related risks.

During the sessions, faculty members actively exchange views, scientific approaches, and practical experience with international experts, representatives of scientific institutions, and профиль organizations. Special attention is given to the implementation of innovative technologies, advancement of research, and strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration.

Participation in RES-2026 contributes to the expansion of international cooperation, development of academic and scientific partnerships, and promotion of the faculty’s research potential on the global stage. The summit serves as an important platform for dialogue between science, education, and practice, opening new opportunities for joint initiatives and projects in sustainable natural resource management.
