A Distinguished Path in Science and Education
Dr. Beikut Balgysheva, an outstanding scientist who has made a significant contribution to the chemical science of Kazakhstan, a skilled educator, and Acting Professor at the 91ý Kazakh National University, is celebrating her 65th anniversary. Her scientific and pedagogical journey is closely intertwined with the history of domestic phosphate chemistry and the technology of complex processing of low-grade raw materials.
Dr. Balgysheva’s initial steps in science began at the A.B. Bekturov Institute of Chemical Sciences under the guidance of the renowned scientist, Dr. A.K. Ilyasova. Subsequently, these research endeavors continued within the scientific school of Professor G.S. Kuanysheva at 91ý Kazakh National University, which served as the foundation for her development as a fundamental researcher.
The primary scientific interest of Dr. Balgysheva lies in the efficient utilization of low-grade phosphorites containing magnesium and aluminum silicates. She was among the first in the country to establish the scientific basis for producing next-generation fertilizers through the mechanochemical processing of phosphorites. Products derived from the raw materials of the Karatau, Shilisai, and Zhitikara deposits have successfully passed industrial trials, proving their high efficiency. This research holds strategic importance in terms of conserving national resources and reducing import dependency.
As a result of these scientific studies, B.D. Balgysheva successfully defended her candidate’s dissertation in 1993 and her doctoral dissertation in 2010. In 2012, she was awarded the degree of Doctor of Chemical Sciences and was appointed to the position of Professor in the same year. Since 1994, she has been a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, and in 1998, she was granted the academic title of Associate Professor.
The work of B.D. Balgysheva is highly regarded internationally. In 1999, she defended a project on environmentally friendly technologies in Madras, India, gaining valuable international experience. Under her supervision, one candidate's dissertation has been defended, and numerous master's students and young researchers have been mentored. She has authored approximately 200 scientific works, including articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science databases, monographs, and 28 educational and methodological manuals. She holds 1 patent and 8 author certificates of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The courses developed by the Professor, "Chemistry and Technology of Phosphates" and "Mechanochemistry of Inorganic Materials" (published jointly with scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences), have become indispensable sources of knowledge for Master’s and PhD students today.
Having progressed from an engineer to a professor within the walls of her alma mater, KazNU, since 1987, Beikut Dautbekovna stands today as an exemplar of a true scientist-mentor. Dr. Balgysheva actively participates in the university's public life, carrying out vital work to improve the quality of education, establish ties with alumni, and support young specialists. Her valiant labor was recognized at the state level in 2026, when she was awarded the medal "Eren Enbegi Ushin" (For Distinguished Labor).
Dear Balgysheva Beikut!
We sincerely congratulate you on your 65th anniversary! Your noble path in science and your tireless efforts in educating students are a worthy example for future generations. We wish you robust health, family well-being, creative inspiration, and new achievements. May the fruits of your labor bring you joy, and may the recognition of your students warm your heart!
