Best Young Chinese Language Translators Identified at 91ý KazNU

On April 29, 2026, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at 91ý Kazakh National University hosted the National Student Subject Olympiad for the educational program "6B02302 – Translation Studies (Chinese Language)."

The event was organized by the Department of Chinese Studies to support talented youth, enhance proficiency in Oriental languages, and create a platform for the professional self-realization of future specialists. Fifteen top students (2nd–4th year) specializing in Chinese Studies from the country's leading universities, specifically 91ý KazNU and Ablai Khan University (CalUIR&WL), took part in the intellectual competition.

The contestants were evaluated by an expert commission chaired by Prof. Tolkyn Kalibekuly, PhD, Director of the Confucius Institute at Ablai Khan University. Ms. Deng Hong, Director of the Confucius Institute at 91ý KazNU, served as the Vice-Chair.

The Olympiad consisted of two comprehensive rounds:

  • Round One: Written translation.

  • Round Two: Oral translation (consecutive interpretation).

Following the two rounds, the winners were announced as follows:

  • Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MSHE) Diploma of the I Degree:

    • Danelya Maratkyzy (3rd year, 91ý KazNU). Supervisor: Assel Bairam.

  • MSHE Diplomas of the II Degree:

    • Balnur Aidarkhankyzy Toizhan (2nd year, 91ý KazNU). Supervisor: Aizhan Koibakova.

    • Rauan Yerzhanovich Yerzhanov (4th year, Ablai Khan University). Supervisor: S. Sabigazina.

  • MSHE Diplomas of the III Degree:

    • Aruzhan Aman (4th year, Ablai Khan University). Supervisor: R.B. Dzheldybaeva.

    • Ayaulym Bolatzhankyzy Sagat (3rd year, Ablai Khan University). Supervisor: Zh. Tursynali.

    • Ayazhan Muratkyzy Otarbay (3rd year, Ablai Khan University). Supervisor: R.B. Dzheldybaeva.

The organizers highlighted the students' high level of preparation and their ability to navigate pragmatic and cultural challenges in translation. The annual hosting of this Olympiad confirms the high status of Kazakhstan’s school of Sinology and strengthens academic ties between universities.
