On May 22, 2026, an educational event dedicated to promoting the scholarly views and spiritual legacy of the outstanding Kazakh scholar, educator, ethnographer, orientalist, and traveler Shokan Ualikhanov was held at the Department of Customs, Financial and Environmental Law of the Faculty of Law at 91��ý Kazakh National University.
The main purpose of the event was to provide a comprehensive introduction to Shokan Ualikhanov’s rich scholarly heritage, to highlight his historical contribution to the development of Kazakh science and culture, and to increase students’ interest in national history, science, and spiritual values.
The event was organized by the academic staff of the Department of Customs, Financial and Environmental Law of the Faculty of Law at 91��ý Kazakh National University. Faculty members, students, and young researchers took part in the event. Participants exchanged views on Shokan Ualikhanov’s scholarly works, his historical research, contributions to ethnography and geography, his legal views, and his educational activities.
The event opened with a welcoming speech by the Head of the Department, Doctor of Law, Professor G.A. Kuanaliyeva. In her speech, she emphasized the special significance of Shokan Ualikhanov’s scholarly heritage in the study of the history and culture of the Kazakh people. She noted that his works remain highly relevant today, and that his academic ideas continue to serve as an important spiritual and intellectual guide for the younger generation. She also encouraged students to study the national scholarly heritage in greater depth, develop historical awareness, and show respect for national science.
During the event, participants delivered presentations and conducted a comprehensive analysis of Shokan Ualikhanov’s academic works. Particular attention was given to his studies of Kazakh society, traditional law, history, culture, and civilization. A meaningful discussion took place among the participants, during which the significance of his scholarly legacy for modern science and education was widely explored.
During the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Professor U.A. Akhatov, also shared his remarks. He particularly emphasized that Shokan Ualikhanov’s scholarly legacy is an invaluable spiritual treasure of the nation. In his speech, he noted that the scholar’s works remain highly instructive and valuable for today’s youth, and highly appreciated the importance of such educational and academic events in broadening students’ perspectives and strengthening their interest in research activities.
The event was organized at a high level and was both meaningful and inspiring. It became one of the important initiatives aimed at expanding students’ academic horizons, promoting national values, honoring the legacy of outstanding historical figures, and strengthening the spiritual and cultural education of the younger generation.
