KazNU discusses prospects for the development of biophysics and neuroscience

A large-scale international scientific and practical round table "Prospects for the development of biophysics, biomedicine, chronobiology and neuroscience" was held at the al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The large-scale event was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the outstanding scientist, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sultan Tuleukhanov.

Opening the meeting, Margulan Ibraimov, Member of the Board and ViceRector for Research and Innovation at KazNU, stressed that the Hero of the day's entire life is inextricably linked with his alma mater. The Vice-rector noted the exceptional role of the professor in the development of new specialties for the country, such as "Biomedical Engineering" and "Biophysics". "Sultan Tuleukhanovich was the first to create in our country a scientific school on the problems of chronobiology, chronomedicine and biophysics, which today is successfully represented by its students both in Kazakhstan and abroad",- Margulan Ibraimov emphasized.

The Vice-Rector also emphasized that, on the initiative of the scientist, the Association of Chronobiologists and Chronomedians of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established in 2025, which brought domestic science to a new international level.

In turn, Chairman of the Department of Life and Health Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Academician Vyacheslav Lokshin noted the close relationship of the hero of the day with the National Academy of Sciences and his contribution to the popularization of knowledge.  "Today, society needs science, and thanks to scientists like our hero of the day, its achievements find practical application, serve the development of future generations of researchers and help in the training of students",- Vyacheslav Lokshin emphasized.

During the plenary session, presentations and congratulations were also delivered by Amankeldi Sadanov, Director General of NCP Microbiology and Virology LLP, Meiramkul Narmuratova, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Amangeldy Bisenbayev, Director of the Research Institute of Biology and Biotechnology, Academician Bolatkhan Zayadan, Head of the Laboratory of the Institute of Cell Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Valery Zinchenko, and others.

The participants discussed topical issues of chronotherapy in oncology, the molecular mechanisms of photosynthesis, and biophysical aspects of neuroscience and the training of highly qualified scientific personnel.
