OPEN LECTURE FOR BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY (USA) STUDENTS HELD AT THE FACULTY OF ORIENTAL STUDIES
On June 5, 2026, the Faculty of Oriental Studies at 91ý Kazakh National University hosted an academic open lecture entitled “Religious Encounters and Cultural Symbols in Ancient Central Asia.” The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Laura Yerekesheva, Researcher-Professor at the Faculty of Oriental Studies. The event was attended by students from Brigham Young University who were visiting the university as part of an educational exchange program.
The seminar aimed to broaden students’ understanding of Central Asia’s rich historical and cultural heritage, familiarize them with the region’s religious and cultural developments, and encourage greater interest in academic research among young scholars.
During the lecture, participants explored the formation of Central Asia’s historical and cultural landscape, the interaction of various religious traditions and civilizations, and the region’s role as an important crossroads of cultures and religions. The significance of cultural symbols in ancient Central Asia and their impact on social development were also discussed in depth.
The event provided participants with an opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into contemporary research conducted within the international academic community.
Such academic seminars contribute to enhancing students’ professional knowledge, promoting intercultural understanding, and strengthening the university’s international academic cooperation and research ties.
