2nd year students of the Meteorology educational program undergo practical training at the Almaty branch of the Kazhydromet RSE and the Institute of Nuclear Physics

From May 25 to June 20, 2nd year students of the Meteorology educational program undergo practical training at the Almaty branch of the Kazhydromet RSE and the Institute of Nuclear Physics. At the Institute of Nuclear Physics, students visited the training and production center, where they got acquainted with the main laboratory and production processes carried out at the institute, including methods of nuclear physics analysis, radiation monitoring systems, technologies for receiving, processing and analyzing samples from the environment. Work was also carried out on the implementation and processing of spatial data using GIS, familiarization with the electronic map of the institute's territory. In the course of field studies, methods for determining the radiation and physicochemical composition of soils from samples from the environment were studied.

In the course of laboratory analysis, work was carried out to determine the content of radionuclides in the soil. In the branch of the RSE "Kazhydromet" in the city of Almaty, students were engaged in air quality research, analysis of water composition, detection of radiation particles. I got acquainted with the stages of the air sampling process, passing through special filters, delivery to the laboratory. The process of physical and chemical analysis of water samples from natural sources by laboratory methods was explained. Water samples should be taken from river, lake or other water bodies in special sterile containers and stored at a certain temperature regime to preserve the original natural composition. At the stage of laboratory analysis, the main physical indicators of water were determined, as well as the chemical composition. In addition, during production practice, work was carried out to control the radiation background and identify radiation particles in the atmosphere.
