On June 21, 2026, the 3rd International Summer School on Environmental Protection, entitled “Methods of Assessing the Anthropogenic Impact on the Environment: Geosystems, Society, Education, Culture and Worldview,” officially commenced at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of 91ý Kazakh National University. The Summer School is organized within the framework of international cooperation with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Summer School aims to create an international youth platform that contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, promotes environmental responsibility and sustainable development, and strengthens international scientific cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
The programme brings together students and early-career researchers from the People’s Republic of China, providing them with an opportunity to explore modern scientific methods and technologies for assessing anthropogenic impacts on the environment.

During the opening ceremony, Aliya Aktymbayeva, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of 91ý Kazakh National University, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
The two-week programme includes lectures, practical sessions and workshops covering geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies, climate change, water resource management, environmental monitoring, sustainable development, environmental culture and the impacts of urbanization on ecosystems.

Participants will also take part in educational field trips to the Almaty State Nature Reserve, Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park and Charyn State National Natural Park, where they will gain valuable field experience and explore Kazakhstan’s unique natural ecosystems.
A key highlight of the programme will be the Annual Academic Conference of the China–Kazakhstan Joint Laboratory of Remote Sensing Technology and Application. The conference will showcase current research on environmental monitoring, climate change, natural resource management, remote sensing technologies and GeoAI applications.

The 3rd International Summer School serves as an important platform for strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, promoting knowledge exchange in environmental research, and fostering environmental awareness and sustainable development values among young people.
