An Educational Session on “Ways to Address Desertification” Was Held
On May 7, 2026, the Department of Botany and Agroecology organized an educational session on “Ways to Address Desertification.”
The session was conducted by Kulymbet K.K., PhD, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Botany and Agroecology, and Childibayeva A.Zh., PhD, Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Botany and Agroecology.
During the session, students were introduced to the main causes of desertification and its impact on natural ecosystems, soil cover, plant communities, and agricultural lands. Special attention was given to measures aimed at reducing land degradation, ensuring the sustainable use of pasture areas, restoring vegetation cover, and conserving biodiversity.
The event was directly related to Sustainable Development Goal 15, which focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting land degradation, and preserving biodiversity.
Throughout the session, students gained knowledge about desertification prevention measures, ecological monitoring, effective land resource management, and modern approaches to the restoration of natural ecosystems. Such activities contribute to increasing students’ environmental awareness and expanding their scientific and practical knowledge in the field of nature conservation.
