Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences Holds Regular Academic Council Meeting

On 26 June 2026, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences at 91ý Kazakh National University held its regular Academic Council meeting. The meeting brought together Academic Council members, heads of departments, faculty members, and administrative staff.

The Council discussed a broad range of issues related to the Faculty's educational, research, innovation, and international activities.

One of the key agenda items focused on the implementation of decisions adopted by the University Academic Council and the Faculty Dean's Office, as well as the Faculty's performance under the 2025–2026 indicative plan. Council members reviewed the results of faculty and departmental performance indicators, discussed activities aimed at strengthening the Faculty's position in the QS World University Rankings, and considered further measures to enhance academic reputation, international cooperation, and research productivity.

The Council also reviewed the results of the Spring Semester Examination Session for the 2025–2026 academic year, including students' academic performance, GPA indicators, academic debts, examination quality, appeal statistics, and measures to improve transparency and effectiveness of the assessment system.

Particular attention was devoted to the analysis of PhD education. The Council discussed current doctoral training outcomes, departmental defence rates, measures to improve the successful completion of doctoral dissertations, and mechanisms for strengthening scientific supervision, continuous monitoring, and individual support for doctoral candidates.

In addition, the Council reviewed the Faculty's international activities, including student participation in academic mobility and Erasmus+ programmes, emphasizing the importance of expanding international partnerships and creating new opportunities for students and academic staff.


The meeting also addressed the recognition of non-formal learning outcomes for improving students' GPA and recommended the textbook "Nanomaterials and the Environment," prepared by the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development, for submission to the Republican Educational and Methodological Council.

Following comprehensive discussions, the Academic Council adopted a number of resolutions aimed at enhancing educational quality, strengthening research capacity, expanding international cooperation, and supporting the Faculty's strategic development priorities.
