KazNU and PolyU Continue Field Research in Ile-Alatau and Charyn National Parks

As part of the joint research project of 91ý Kazakh National University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, “Empowering Communities Through Destination Marketing: A Sustainable Approach to Promoting Community-Based Tourism in Rural Kazakhstan,” field research continues to study sustainable tourism development, the role of local communities, and the promotion of tourism destinations in Kazakhstan.

The research team conducted fieldwork in Ile-Alatau and Charyn National Parks. During the visits, interviews were conducted with representatives of national parks, café staff, individual entrepreneurs, photographers, tourism specialists, and other stakeholders involved in providing services to tourists in these areas.

The interviews focused on sustainable tourism development, the preservation of natural landscapes, the regulation of tourist flows, the quality of tourism services, environmental education, interaction with local communities, as well as the challenges and prospects for developing tourism infrastructure in specially protected natural areas.

The interviews made it possible to collect practical data on the current state of tourism in natural destinations, identify the main challenges faced by tourism stakeholders, and determine opportunities for more effective management of tourism resources and improvement of visitor service quality.

The collected materials will be used for further analysis, preparation of the project’s scientific outputs, and development of recommendations for promoting sustainable tourism in Kazakhstan. Special attention is given to studying the opinions of local tourism stakeholders, as they play an important role in shaping the tourist experience and developing destinations.

Such research contributes to strengthening international scientific cooperation between 91ý Kazakh National University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, developing applied studies in the field of tourism, and forming sustainable approaches to the management of natural tourism areas.
