In contemporary literary and translation studies, the issue of rendering the national and cultural content of a literary text into another language as accurately and naturally as possible has become increasingly relevant. Taking into account the significance of research in this area, Katbayeva Gulmira, a second-year doctoral student of the Department of Chinese Studies,  on February 5 held a research seminar on the topic “ADAPTATION METHODS FOR LINGUOCULTURAL LACUNAE IN LITERARY TRANSLATION” The seminar aimed to analyze mechanisms for preserving cultural markers in literary translation and to assess the effectiveness of linguistic and pragmatic solutions used to convey national specificity.

The doctoral student’s research seminar was attended by Kairanbayev N.S., Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation and International Cooperation; Orazakynkyzy F., Head of the Department of Chinese Studies; Madiev D.A., PhD, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Department for Research and Innovation and International Cooperation; Kerimbayev E.A., PhD, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Department for Academic, Methodological, and Educational Affairs; as well as the research supervisor Daulet F.N., and faculty members, master’s students, and doctoral students, who shared their comments and recommendations.

During the event, participants thoroughly examined the features of translating national and cultural units from M. Auezov’s novel The Path of Abai into other languages, the challenges of maintaining semantic accuracy alongside artistic integrity, constraints related to selecting translation equivalents, and potential misunderstandings arising in intercultural communication. In addition, the seminar addressed the translator’s adaptation strategies, ways of compensating for linguocultural lacunae, the appropriateness of explanatory techniques, as well as scholarly and methodological aspects of promoting Kazakh literature in the international arena. Participants shared their views and put forward recommendations.
