Spiritual Heritage of the Turkic World: Educational Tour Along the Almaty - Shymkent–Turkistan Route

On April 11–12, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, Department of Recreational Geography and Tourism, organized a practice-oriented educational and study tour for first-year students of the “Tourism” and “Restaurant and Hotel Business” programs to the southern metropolis — the city of Shymkent, as well as to the spiritual capital of the Turkic world — the city of Turkistan.

On the first day of the trip, students participated in a city sightseeing tour of Shymkent accompanied by a professional guide. During the экскурсия, they explored major attractions such as the Seitjan Kari Mosque, the tallest monument in the country — the Baidibek Bi Monument, and the historical and cultural complex “Shym qala”.

On the way to Turkistan, students made a stop at the Akmeshit Aulie cave located in the Baidibek district, where they received insightful information about its geographical features, sacred significance, and tourist attractiveness.

On the following day, the students visited the “Azret Sultan” National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve in Turkistan, where they became acquainted with the sacred burial site of Kazakh khans, biys, sultans, and batyrs, offered prayers, and paid their respects.

The main objective of the trip was to integrate students’ theoretical knowledge with practical experience, to deepen their understanding of the historical and cultural potential of tourist destinations, and to enhance their professional competencies.

This educational tour was organized at a high level under the guidance of experienced faculty members — Sh.T. Abdreeva, Zh.N. Aliyeva, A.M. Artemyev, A.A. Zhakupova, and B.S. Adilbay. The trip proved to be informative and memorable for the students, while also fostering respect for national values and broadening their spiritual outlook.
