Ecological Dialogue: Inside the Fourth Day of KazNU's Summer School

The 3rd International Summer School "Protect Environment - 2026" (3rd SSP-PE-2026) continues its work at the 91ý Kazakh National University. Following an established tradition, researchers and students from China are actively participating in the program. They arrived within the framework of ongoing collaboration with the China-Kazakhstan Joint Laboratory of Remote Sensing Technology and Application. The shared mission uniting the scientists of both nations revolves around environmental monitoring in arid regions, advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and assessing anthropogenic impacts on geosystems. Wednesday, June 24, offered participants a solid blend of theoretical discussions and practical exploration.

The morning sessions began with the topic: "Can we drink wastewater?" delivered by Gaukhar Sadvakassova, Candidate of Technical Sciences and senior lecturer. As global water scarcity remains a pressing issue, the lecture focused on resource management and water recycling technologies.

The focus then shifted to human habitats, as Bayan Tussupova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, discussed the "Assessment of Anthropogenic Impacts on Urban Ecosystems". Her presentation examined the mechanisms of measuring and mitigating the environmental toll of urbanization on megacities.

Late morning featured a double-session by Guldana Minzhanova, Candidate of Chemical Sciences. She first introduced "Ecolabeling", explaining its role in shaping consumer behavior. In addition, G.M. Minzhanova presented to students a lecture on “Sustainable Development and Modern Society,” prepared by A.N. Kutzhan, Associate Professor of the Department and Candidate of Technical Sciences. The lecture focused on the key responsibilities of society in advancing the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the afternoon, participants gathered at the Triumphal Arch of KazNU before heading to the Botanical Garden for a guided tour led by PhD senior lecturer Aigul Baibotayeva. The students were introduced to the garden's scientific and educational activities, observing practical conservation efforts. The day concluded with a feedback session and a group photograph.
