THE EAEU IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBAL TRANSFORMATION: NEW INTEGRATION PRIORITIES AND DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council of the EAEU ended on May 29 in Astana and reaffirmed that Eurasian integration continues to be one of the key areas of regional cooperation in the post-Soviet space and in Eurasia as a whole.

Against the background of the ongoing transformation of international relations, geopolitical instability and the restructuring of global logistics and economic chains, the EAEU member States demonstrate an interest in maintaining sustainable mechanisms for economic cooperation and coordination.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to deepening trade and economic integration, developing transport and logistics connectivity, digitalization, industrial cooperation and ensuring food security. These areas are becoming particularly relevant in the context of increased sanctions pressure, fragmentation of the global economy and the growing regionalization of international processes. The EAEU is gradually adapting to the new realities, striving to develop more flexible and pragmatic mechanisms for interaction between the members of the union.

Special attention should be paid to the speech of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who focused on the need to further develop the digital agenda of the EAEU and expand the mechanisms of labor mobility within the association. In modern conditions, digitalization is becoming one of the key factors in increasing the competitiveness of the economies of the member states, simplifying trade procedures and developing cross-border cooperation.

It is also important to create favorable conditions for the free movement of labor resources, the recognition of qualifications and the development of a common labor market. These initiatives reflect the EAEU's goal to adapt to modern technological and socio-economic changes.

For Kazakhstan, participation in the EAEU remains of strategic importance both in terms of ensuring access to the common market and in the context of developing the country's transit potential. Kazakhstan has traditionally advocated pragmatic and economically oriented integration based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and respect for the national interests of the participating States. In modern conditions, it is precisely economic stability and the diversification of foreign economic relations that are becoming the most important factors in ensuring national stability.

At the same time, the further development of the EAEU will depend on the ability of the member states to effectively respond to external challenges, minimize the politicization of integration processes and strengthen the practical component of cooperation by expanding the use of digital platforms.

A promising direction may be the expansion of cooperation between the EAEU and the states of Asia, the Middle East and other regional associations, which will strengthen the international subjectivity of the union and enhance its role in the emerging multipolar system of international relations.

Today, the EAEU is at the stage of rethinking its long-term development strategy. In these circumstances, it becomes important not only to preserve the integration mechanisms that have already been achieved, but also to form new approaches that can ensure the stability of the association in the face of global uncertainty.
